Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

People in richer countries can afford to eat meat, and in places like the US, eating meat for almost every meal is extremely common. Eating that much meat contributes a lot of methane to the atmosphere and uses a lot of water.
