REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Practice Gratitude for EarthKathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/05/2023 9:27 PMI agree with this statement. If we take time to look at all the things going on around us that usually get ignored, we would all be more grateful for how everything gets done; natural processes run everything that we need and want to live, we just need to take notice. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth More Fruits and VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/05/2023 9:23 PMIt is the healthier alternative for other snack foods/meal sides for people and is healthier for the environment because of the smaller amount of packaging. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Food LifestyleMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/05/2023 9:20 PMI think that that is very true and wish that could be the case, but also feel that is not always an option to pay for the more expensive, whole foods. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/04/2023 12:57 AMMicroplastics are a big issue globally and locally. This can be improved by washing your clothes less and buying them second hand so most of the plastic fibers have already been washed out. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Spend Time OutsideRachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/04/2023 12:56 AMThis is absolutely true for me, as the beauty of natural environments is the greatest source of my joy. This implies a sense of loss for our culture that spends much of its time inside, away from these experiences. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/04/2023 12:52 AMI can make more of an effort to get outside while I'm not doing homework, rather than procrastinating inside. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/04/2023 12:50 AMI enjoyed a combination of biking and walking while birdwatching today, but some other favorites are horseback riding, gardening, and running/hiking in nature. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/04/2023 12:47 AMI see more of the little things. Today I was noticing the size/shape changes of the paths in Prentice Park now that they are no longer covered in snow. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Tend a GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
Gracelin Crabbs 4/04/2023 12:44 AMI have started several of my wildflower seedlings for one of my summer gardens, as well as started research on my three-sisters vegetable garden. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Gracelin Crabbs 4/04/2023 12:31 AMWe don't always realize where our waste goes, and therefore how much accumulates. This challenge will show exactly how much waste I produce a week, and has potential to help me become more aware of trash I produce.
