Krista's actions
Nature
Join An Outdoor Project
I will join an outdoor restoration project in my community while observing best practices in my region for not spreading COVID-19.
Nature
Tend a Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 5 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will find out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in recycling dumpsters or my curbside bin.
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 15 minutes each day.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 0 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Water
Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
I will prevent water runoff and increase absorbency by mulching the base of plants and trees at my home or work.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 10-minute walk outside each day.
Nature
Practice Gratitude for Earth
I will spend 5 minute(s) per day outside, practicing gratitude (prayer, meditation, journaling, etc.) for Earth and my natural surroundings.
Health
GET MOVING EVERYDAY
I want to increase the amount of moving throughout the day. I will target a minimum of 7,000 steps a day to make sure I am
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors, including market demand for recyclables. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Krista Gonzalez 4/12/2023 6:29 AMEarth911 is good for finding local drop off sites for batteries and electronics. If you buy the same types of consumer products over and over (like shampoo, etc.), check out Terracycle to see if there is a packaging return program. Some are free and just require signing up for an account. If you use contact lens, some eye doctors have return services for the lens and the plastic packaging!
