REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Visit A Local FarmHow do our current food growing and manufacturing processes affect our future and the future of Earth?
Mary Kenny 4/10/2023 7:49 AMMost of the food in America is grown and processed in a very small portion of the United States on monocrop farms that require large amounts of resources such as fertilizers, pesticides, water, and land. This process is not only bad for the environment but we end up eating less nutrient decent foods leading to other health complications in the future. There are countries that protect what their citizens eat much more than our current system does. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Joyful MovementWhat's your favorite activity(ies) in which you experience joy while being active and moving?
Mary Kenny 4/10/2023 7:40 AMOne of my favorite activities outside is hiking around new areas. I enjoy the change of scenery and being able to take my dog on these trips helps strengthen his recall skill! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Mary Kenny 4/10/2023 7:37 AMCommonly as per capita income rises people can afford to have more luxuries which includes meat consumption. Eating meat increases the amount of resources required to make a comparable amount of veggie based food. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Mary Kenny 4/04/2023 1:29 PMA way to incorporate time spent with friends/partner and my exercise routine together would be by including them in either a workout plan/diet or even asking them to join. I am competitive and currently work out with my husband and will try to one up each other. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Try a New Way to PrepCanning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA or another trusted source. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
Mary Kenny 4/04/2023 7:27 AMI would like to can some tomato sauce and probably some pickles this year. My family has a tradition of going to my parents house with crates of tomatoes each year and we can about a hundred jars of tomato sauce per family! Nothing is better than homemade sauce. I would also like to can some pickles. I regularly buy these at the grocery store and go through them quick. This way I will reduce my waste and probably save some money. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Practice Loving-Kindness MeditationHow can practicing Loving-Kindness Meditation be helpful to the health of the environment?
Mary Kenny 4/03/2023 1:49 PMI think practicing this type of meditation can help heal the relationship with have with ourselves. People are typically more difficult on themselves than with others and I think positivity inside can be visualized in the environment you're in through your actions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Compost Food WasteNew to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?
Mary Kenny 4/03/2023 1:40 PMI plan to bring my compost to my friends house since I live in an apartment I don't have a property that I can compost on. I have been thinking about getting a spin composter that can stay on my balcony.
