Lindsey's actions
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 2 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Simplicity
Less Screen Time
I will replace 30 minute(s) of screen time each day with other activities.
Simplicity
Go For A Daily Walk Outside
I will take a walk outside for 30 minutes each day.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Cheap, single-use items and disposable packaging end up blowing around as litter more often in poor and POC-majority neighborhoods. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 3 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 30-minute walk outside each day.

Lindsey Lyons 4/21/2023 9:04 AMThis has been a wonderful experience. Though I had hoped for more "quantity"- more people in the challenge, more check ins and more interactions, I am so happy with the "quality" of the EcoChallenge. Reading through people's reflections, comments and stories is really rewarding and energizing! We did great. Those that engaged, engaged deeply and learned a lot. I am thankful for this opportunity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Reduce Single-Use DisposablesWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What did you substitute or could be substituted instead?
Lindsey Lyons 4/20/2023 8:07 AMTo go coffee on the run is my downfall. There's no excuse and I know I need to do better. The answer is simple to keep coffee cups in my car, and go inside to have them filled versus drive through. It comes down to time and convenience-- but it is also an easy change that I need to work on. The EcoChallenge has motivated me for these three weeks, but now I just need to continue. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Lindsey Lyons 4/20/2023 7:38 AMOur systems remove us from the process. All I have to do is put my waste on the curb and it "goes away". The sanitation process in the US keeps the user out of the mix and often there are no incentives for producing less. Ie- it's the same cost for me if my can is full or empty. This challenge has made me realize I need to work on reducing convenience items and plan ahead better for busy days. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Lindsey Lyons 4/18/2023 1:09 PMMeat is so accessible for us! All of it- distribution, refrigeration, freezers, etc. Many restaurants still don't even offer vegan and vegetarian options! Meat is expensive, but Americans prioritize it. Meat is carbon intensive and many red meats leave people with health problems as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Lindsey Lyons 4/18/2023 1:03 PMI love walking with my kids. Having family time while being outside hiking, walking or fishing are my favorite things. I have gone to the gym a few times with my kids and we always have a blast- wish I did it more! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Go For A Daily Walk OutsideFresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?
Lindsey Lyons 4/18/2023 12:59 PMI like to walk first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. I take my golden retriever on daily walks and find the fresh air wakes me up in the morning and helps me sleep better at night. I notice that I miss this when I cut my walks short on rainy days. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth More Fruits and VeggiesHow does eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat positively affect yourself, other people, and our planet?
Lindsey Lyons 4/12/2023 10:46 AMI know that I feel better and have more energy when I eat a meal filled with whole unprocessed foods. I know that it helps me reduce carbon footprints also, but mostly- My energy level and focus is better! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Go for a Daily WalkHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Lindsey Lyons 4/11/2023 10:23 AMI love seeing people out in their yards, walking, biking, and doing yard work while I walk my dog in the great weather. I see so much more detail when walking versus driving! I get to see people, changes, and interact. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Less Screen TimeWhat did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?
Lindsey Lyons 4/06/2023 12:24 PMThe weather has been excellent and I have left my phone inside and gone for walks the last few evenings. It's been extremely refreshing! I have always loved walked, but have a hard time leaving my phone behind. This is a good challenge for me! Keep the sunshine coming. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Lindsey Lyons 4/04/2023 6:20 AMPeople love to be appreciated, and in turn- they will likely repeat positive actions if they feel thanks. It creates a positive feedback loop that continues. Pay it forward mentality.
