  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Needs Vs. Wants
How is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?

Making do and going with the flow is the true creative mindset when it comes to simplicity. A flexible and thrifty way of tackling problems can reduce consumption, increase thoughtfulness, and improve how we think about our own needs. I've always tried to make life more chaotic and impressive to appeal to our society's standard of the "hustle", but being creative and practicing simplicity is a great start to a better mindset.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Community LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
How is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?

There is no just world without rights for all. It's as simple as that. A sustainable future comes with the idea that people are able to live their lives indefinitely, with the freedom to do as they please while making a positive impact - and this is essential to society's prosperity. Trans, femme, and nonbinary lives are all part of the human experience, they deserve just as much love and respect, and their opinions and input are necessary for the support of all people.

How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

Nature is a healing entity, and there have been studies that give evidence to mental and physical healing capacity of nature. Being outdoors is just fantastic! You feel energized and refreshed, nourished by a connection to the earth, and it's a great way to move your body.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

I don't always consciously compost when back in my dorm, so I've really been thinking on how much food I'm grabbing and what kind of material I'm using. It's given me a more thorough process, more thoughtful and deliberate about consumption.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Power Down the Computer
What are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?

    Allison Maurice (DET)'s avatar
Allison Maurice (DET) 4/14/2023 8:18 AM
Taking shorter showers, reducing screen time, and relying on natural light are all easy things I've been trying to do to reduce energy consumption. Energy, material, water, and CO2 consumption are all necessary but can be minimized in small ways!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

Allison Maurice (DET) 4/13/2023 11:37 AM
Taking time to actually sleep and take care of myself can be a struggle with the mindset of productivity, I've been making a point of actively going to sleep. That is, making a conscious effort to stop what I'm doing, forget about what I could have done, and just take time for my own health. It's really making a difference!
