Greg's actions
Simplicity
Disconnect from Email
I will disconnect from my email when not at work or school, using my personal time for endeavors that help me live out my values.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 3 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITES
I will spend 30 minutes finding out where landfills and/or toxic waste sites are situated in my region and which communities are most impacted by these sites.
Simplicity
Work-Life Balance
I will not work more than 8 hour days each day to practice work-life balance.
Energy
Replace Manual Thermostats
I will replace manual thermostats with programmable ones.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 5 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 15 minute(s) each day.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Greg Mountain 4/04/2023 5:17 AMcarrying my reusable water bottle took a few days to get used to but now I feel like I lost my keys when I dont have it with me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Greg Mountain 4/03/2023 10:48 AMits really hard to wrap your head around the global societal impact of something. Documentaries are good but getting people to set the time aside can be challenging. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Greg Mountain 4/03/2023 10:46 AMexercising with a friend or making it a point to take a walk at a park rather than around your office building. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Greg Mountain 4/03/2023 10:45 AMtaking time to show appreciation for things that people do boosts everyone's morale. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Disconnect from EmailNotice how much time you were spending checking email away from work and make note of that. Now that you have stepped away from it and have not been checking, what changes are you noticing in your thoughts, use of time, stress and energy levels?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Greg Mountain 4/03/2023 10:39 AMpersonal relationships and how i'm doing to stay engaged in the moment with those around me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Greg Mountain 4/03/2023 7:35 AMtaking the time to think about my waste footprint more times throughout the day and making conscious decisions to reduce and reuse -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Greg Mountain 4/03/2023 7:26 AMWhat stands in my way is mostly just making the extra effort to go get my cup if I'm away from my desk (but close by to the coffee maker). Stopping and making the conscious decision to take 2 extra minutes to prevent waste is all it takes, and it makes me feel like i'm doing a small part.
