  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

When I practice gratitude, I feel happier. When I feel happier, I'm more sensitive to the needs of others and, moreover, tend to want to spread that joy to my surrounding environment. But, it's tough to find that motivation if I don't first reflect in thankfulness. It's a crucial first step.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

It rings very true. If I'm always indoors I'm likely far more sedentary and connecting to artificial things -- TV, laptop, FIFA. Outdoors I better touch my natural environment and, as such, gain a greater appreciation for it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Join An Outdoor Project
How well do you know the area you stay in -- whether your hometown or your campus community? In what ways is a deep knowledge of your surroundings -- known as a 'sense of place' -- important to you?

I don't know my surroundings nearly as well as I'd like to. Sometimes I get caught in the same routine, that it's uncomfortable to break that up. But, engaging (for instance, the outdoor project at which I volunteered) better connects me to the earth and community, and it becomes far easier to become an advocate!

Biked to the gym, whereas I'd usually drive. Reduced emissions and saved on gas! It's cool when sustainable choices also have net-positive cost impacts
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Meet My Neighbors
In what ways can you create more real and meaningful interactions with friends — or strangers — each week?

    Andrew Razanauskas's avatar

We can offer to help or support. I believe everyone has an important skill or trait to offer the world, and the more we engage in our social environments, the better we can support others in need and see that reciprocated.
