I've definitely learned some things from this challenge and have became more cautious with environmental things.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Support Pollution Reduction
What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

    Jeni Steigleman's avatar
    Jeni Steigleman 4/21/2023 1:26 PM
Air pollution and poor water quality can affect human health. Poor air quality can cause respiratory problems in humans and contaminated water can spread diseases.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

    Jeni Steigleman's avatar
    Jeni Steigleman 4/21/2023 11:15 AM
The nearest body of water to me is Laurel Lake. It could be affected by runoffs because they could carry excess nutrients such as nitrogen into the lake which could potentially make the water quality worse.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can reduce mental clutter as well as physical waste -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

    Jeni Steigleman's avatar
    Jeni Steigleman 4/21/2023 11:10 AM
The best part is not having all that mail coming and then just lying around. To be honest, I didn't always throw that stuff in the recycle but I am now more mindful and do that. I've started paying more attention to things that can be recycled and being sure they are put in the recycle bin instead of the trash can.

Tip: I stand by the recycling and trash bins every evening when I go through the mail to help with the clutter.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Jeni Steigleman's avatar
    Jeni Steigleman 4/21/2023 11:07 AM
A barrier to using reusable bottles is the fact that germs will grow on the bottles after each use so it's important to be sure to keep them clean. You just have to keep it in the back of your mind to make it a habit.

Another beautiful day out there. Take advantage of it before the rain comes tomorrow afternoon!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Turn it off
How is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?

    Jeni Steigleman's avatar
    Jeni Steigleman 4/20/2023 1:20 PM
I believe it is generated with turbines using fossil fuels. Electricity generation emits large amounts of air pollutants that is put into the environment therefore being taken in by animals and humans.

Be part of the solution, not part of the pollution.

Started prep work on our garden this week. Can't wait for all the fresh vegetables. One of my favorite things to do. Nothing better than a fresh veggie from your own garden.
