Participant Feed

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Reduce refined sugar
Before you started this challenge, did you think you were 'addicted' to sugar? How do you feel now?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/12/2023 5:31 PM
I think I have a sugar addition, that has led about due to always having a sweet treat in the cafeteria after every meal. This has subsided since I have stopped eating in the cafeteria, and I don't typically keep sweets in my room. When I crave anything sweet, instead of eating chocolate, I have been enjoying an apple with peanut butter.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Heat and Cool Naturally
What are other ways you could use the power of the sun to reduce your own environmental footprint?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/12/2023 5:29 PM
Daily activities can be done during the day, when the sun is shining. This can reduce the use of unnatural light sources, as well giving one a chance to enjoy the sunlight while they work.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/07/2023 9:57 AM
I agree with Berry's assertion that treating nature as a religious experience can connect one closer to the universe. Celebrating each day can bring a person more joy and happiness within their life.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Switch to Cold Water
What do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/06/2023 9:00 AM
Considering out laundry is free on campus, I will not be saving money from making energy efficient choices. The gratification from knowing I can personally lower my harm to the environment by making better decisions is "profit" enough.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Car Share
Take a moment to think of places you frequent often (school, work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/04/2023 1:03 PM
The place that I go to most often is the grocery store. My friend group and I have made a habit of planning trips to the store together once a week, so that we aren't all driving separately at different times. By carpooling, we are all using our vehicles less.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Health Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Who is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/04/2023 1:01 PM
In my American Environmental History class, we discussed how there is racial bias which has been a part of environmentalism. Specifically, we discussed how primarily black neighborhoods have had environmental irresponsibility imposed upon them, such as the building of a contaminated waste deposit site in a black neighborhood, which affected the economics, nature, and housing of the area.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Engage In Active Listening
What was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/04/2023 12:58 PM
The conversation that I had in which I actively listened to was not necessarily one that I had intended to happen, but since I was at work I felt as though I wasn't able to oppose and discuss the very out-there opinions that a customer was complaining to me about.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Community Join my Student Government or Local Group
How can your community support inclusive decision making?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/04/2023 12:55 PM
The Northland community can support inclusive decision making by coming to NCSA meetings, learning more about the "politics" of Northland, and by involving themselves with the student body or staff.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Community LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
How is equality for trans, femme, and nonbinary people important to a just and sustainable society?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/04/2023 12:54 PM
(TW: Suicide) It is important for any non-cis person to be treated as equals in today's world. The current system, which does not provide equality to trans people, has caused immense harm. 40% of trans youths have attempted suicide, and 82% have considered committing suicide. With more awareness and acceptance towards trans people, the rates of suicide will decrease.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community SIGN UP TO VOTE
Why is voting important to creating a just, sustainable, and thriving world? In what other ways can you actively participate in important decision-making?

    Luna Warnke's avatar
    Luna Warnke 4/04/2023 12:48 PM
Voting is important because it can drastically alter the ways of the world. The two different outcomes from today's election are nearly opposites, which affects how Wisconsin specifically will run in the aftermath of this election. The rights of POC, women, LGBTQ+, and any other minorities will be affected by the outcome of this election.
